【摘要】:Rockusedforerosioncontrolmayconsistofseveraltypes,dependingonpotentialuse.Onetypemaybearmorstoneweighingfromonetothreetonsorbreakwaterstoneweighingthreetotwentytonsplacedalongshorelinesorinjettiestoprotecttheshorelinefromerosionduetotheactionoflargewaves.Anothertypemayberiprapusuallyweighinglessthanonetonandplacedalongriverbanksorontheslopesofdamstopreventerosionduetorun-off,waveaction,orstream-flow.Athirdtypemaybegabion-fillweighinglessthan50lb(22kg)andplacedinbasketsofwireorothersuitablematerials.Thesebasketsarethentiedtogethertoformanintegralstructuredesignedtoresisterosionalongstreambanksandaroundbridgepiers.Nomatterwhatformittakes,rockforerosioncontrolconsistsofindividualpiecesofnaturalstone.Theabilityoftheseindividualpiecesofstonetoresistdeteriorationduetoweatheringactionaffectsthestabilityoftheintegralplacementofrockforerosioncontrolandhence,thestabilityofconstructionprojects,shorelines,andstreambanks.Thistestmethodisdesignedtodeterminetheeffectsoffreezingandthawingactionontheindividualpiecesofrockforerosioncontrolandtheresistanceoftherocktodeterioration.ThistestmethodwasdevelopedtobeusedinconjunctionwithadditionaltestmethodslistedinPracticeD4992.Thistestmethoddoesnotprovideanabsolutevaluebutratheranindicationoftheresistancetofreezingandthawing;therefore,theresultsofthistestmethodarenottobeusedasthesolebasisforthedeterminationofrockdurability.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependantuponthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetestingandsampling.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluationsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstheproceduresforevaluatingthedurabilityofrockforerosioncontrolwhenexposedtofreezingandthawingconditions.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.TheSIunitsgiveninparenthesisareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
